On 12th of July 2020, Anika Shehzad (16 yrs) resident of Wandala Diyal Shah in Sheikhupura, began work as a house maid, at the home of a Muslim landlord Naila Bibi (32 yrs) resident of B.Block, Multan Road, Lahore. BACA continues our work supporting the Pakistani Christian asylum community in Thailand and we are pleased to announce the release of another person from the brutal Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) of Bangkok. Sapna Charles has been supported by BACA for 22 months and her family who have recently been granted asylum in Australia, hope to complete the process soon. A Christian father of five children was beaten to death by police officers, who it is alleged where attempting to thwart justice in a murder case that involved a Muslim man with strong family connections within the local police authority. Younis Masih (58 yrs) was beaten during a police interrogation at his home at approximately 1am on 21st June 2020, after being falsely investigated for drug dealing with two sons. A man accused of blasphemy was killed in court during his trial proceedings.Tahir Ahmed Nasim was shot dead during his trial for blasphemy in Peshawar when Khalid Khan calmly walked up to the defendant, shooting him six times in front of shocked onlookers, before being overpowered by security. Mr Nasim was on trial after being arrested for blasphemy when a video of him claiming to be a prophet was put onto social media that then went viral. A BACA food parcel distribution operation reached a further 120 families despite the Coronavirus challenges thanks to God. On Tuesday Pakistan reported their lowest number of daily infections by coronavirus, as well as fatalities linked to the disease in a 24 hour period.
